International Women’s Day - Behind the Camera | LS Productions

It's International Women’s Day 2019!

This year, we wanted to celebrate some of the talented female directors, photographers and DOPs that we’ve worked with over the years.

Why? Because according to Free The Bid, the industry initiative set up by Alma Har'el to give a voice to female-identifying filmmakers at the bidding stage, less than 7% of commercial, film and TV directors are women, and that's just not good enough for 50% of the population - it's time to change.

Scroll on to dive into our archive of photo and film campaigns featuring undeniably inspirational women who make the magic happen behind the scenes.

Jo Metson Scott

We worked with Jo Metson Scott on an editorial shot in Scotland for the November 2017 issue of GQ France, featuring another inspiring woman, Stella Tennant. Metson Scott is not only a fashion and portraiture photography powerhouse, and the creative director of renowned creative publication Pleasure Garden, but she also started an award-winning project called The Grey Line, which combined beautiful portraits alongside handwritten interviews with veteran soldiers who had moral doubts about their involvement in the Iraq War.

Starting out in her career only a few years ago as an intern at Somesuch. Keshvala has proved herself as one to watch, with her pioneering work for the likes of Nike, Jorja Smith, Stella McCartney, Demi Lovato and Loewe.

Last year, we worked with Australian fashion and lifestyle photographer Ali Mitton on a Holiday campaign for US clothing brand Aerie, featuring some other incredibly talented and strong women like Iskra Lawrence and Cleo Wade. The unique thing about Mitton's various shoots for Aerie is that there is absolutely zero retouching in post - she believes in the philosophy of showing off real women; role models, not just models.

We got to see Weir in action on our Winter 2017 campaign for Stella McCartney, shot on a real life landfill site in Scotland, as well as some other fashion projects, and we just can't get enough of her über-modern, intimate, high concept work. She's an activist too - her photobook 'Homes' has raised over £10,000 for refugee and migrant charity La Cimande, and her exhibition 'Pollution Brings a Foul Breeze' donated all proceeds from print sales to the Marine Conservation Society's 'Great British Beach Clean'.
