Back to News listing

With all Hallows’ Eve almost upon us, we decided to take a candlelit tour through the darkest corners of our Locations Library to extract some of the creepiest locations, proving once and for all that if you’re looking to put the spine-tingling on screen, then the UK is still the best location for diabolical diversity and spooky spots for filming.

Read on, if you dare...

1. Nightmarish Edinburgh

Widely regarded as one of the most haunted cities in the world, our hometown of Edinburgh shapeshifts like Jekyll and Hyde between moods and eras. Famed for its distinctive Medieval and Gothic architectural styles, it is also the blue-print for the dark academia aesthetic of the Harry Potter world. A city with a long and gruesome history, haunted by myths and legends, swirling with murky memories of Burke and Hare to dark tales of the labyrinth of underground streets that lie deep beneath the city.

2. End of the Pier Fear

Dig a little deeper into the darker recesses of some of the UK’s seaside resorts and you will find an atmospheric mix of decaying kitsch, haunting arcade curiosities, boarded up amusements and seriously unsettling sights. Evoking the faded grandeur of a bygone era and an eerie feeling of laughter that stopped a long time ago…

3. Haunted House Feels

Hands up who would stay the night in one of these nightmarish residences? No other country comes close to the UK, when it comes to conjuring up the archetypal haunted houses that stalk the imagination every Halloween. In a country awash with Victorian, Gothic, Medieval, Edwardian architectural styles, each one of these buildings, when twisted through a darker lens, transforms into the perfect backdrop to conjure a creeping sense of dread.

4. Lost in the Woods

Filled with twisted trees casting dastardly shadows, awash with ancient secrets and punctured with cabins where no one can hear you scream, the UK’s woodland and forest has been used to great effect both in film and in stills. Conjuring a mysterious feeling of the supernatural and an unshakeable feeling that you are being watched. They are places of dark beauty, perfect for summoning the spirit of classic Burtonesque tones this Halloween.

5. Eerie Interiors

Finally, are you ready for this collection of eerie interiors? From bone-chilling subterranean spaces to rooms that make your blood run cold, our Location Library is filled with a number of these unsettling interiors perfect if you’re looking to paint a portrait of the macabre filled with stark nightmarish imagery.

See enough to make your skin crawl? Let LS Productions lead you down the right path for more loathsome locations, our Head of Locations, Amy 'Malicious’ Morement, and Locations Manager, Sarah ‘Enchanted’ Eccles, are simply dying to speak to you.

But right now we’ll leave you with the witch’s road.
